1910 Vs 2010 Sportswear

The two graphic pieces created by myself represent my personal interest in sport and exercise, they also represent the differences between sportswear from the 1910′s to the current day Autumn / Winter 17-18 & Spring / Summer 18 runway collections.

They show how much sportswear has become so much more eye-catching, bright ways to dress for sport, exercise and everyday use. Compared to the 1910's when the clothing was worn just for its created purpose such as the padded bottoms for protection when playing football.

The 1910 bathing suit over the tracksuit is a visual representation of how sportswear has changed when it comes to the colours and styles. The 1910 bathing suit is very plain with few dark colours where-as the Plein Sport tracksuit is very bright and can be worn when wanting to be seen and noticed instantly. The bright colours are also used to represent sport as they have a theme of excitement and adrenaline which are some of the feelings given off from exercise and training.

The fonts and logos are both made of an image/pattern of a piece of sportswear from the 1910’s, the Plein Sport one being mad of a pink bathing suit that was worn in that decade and the PUMA typography being made of a section of a hunting jacket as types of hunting such as fox hunting was seen as a sport back then.

The pink bathing suit lettering shows how similar some clothing from 1910 can actually be seen as similar to sports clothing today, it is a very vibrant colour just like on the Plein Sport 2017 tracksuit the runway model is wearing.

The PUMA lettering does quite the opposite as the hunting jacket colours and pattern are completely different to the track jacket the PUMA runway model is wearing. The hunting jacket is quite dull as it is a rusted brown type colour and made up of stitched checked squares but this could also been seen as being made like this for camouflage purposes. The PUMA track jacket is then made up of white, blue and slight areas of green; this will be similar to the reasoning of the bright colours mentioned about the Plein Sport tracksuit.

There are then the textures shown in both the logos animal icons. These are both made up of two types of sports footwear from 1910. The Plein Sport icon being made up of a close-up section of some cycling boots. The PUMA icon is made up of a close-up of some basketball shoes. These are both made of a leather material which shows that footwear from the 1910 would have been very hard and uncomfortable but sturdy and sustainable, when compared to modern day sport footwear they are completely different. The Plein Sport model shows this as she is wearing some trainers made of a fabric material for comfort purposes but they can be easily damaged and will so not be waterproof compared to the 1910 leather footwear which will be because of the material used.

The two graphical pieces both show how much sports clothing has changed since 1910. This is shown instantly by the colours and materials used, yet they also show the similarity for certain clothing as they look slightly similar when it does come to colour but they also succeed to look completely different. They also show how in the 1910′s the clothing may not seem to focus on colour, especially for male clothing but they seem to be made simply just for their purposes compared to modern day sports clothing items that seem to look as they are made just for the style purposes rather than sustainability while still representing its theme ‘sport’.
